Looking for English interface for your TP-Link TL-WR703N router?  The wait is over.

Disclaimer  : Before u go ahead with the steps, let me make it clear that I am not responsible for any bricked devices so please do it at your own risk.
I’ve tried my best to make it as easy as possible  to understand and follow but if u still have any query u can leave comments.

It works with v1.5 and v1.6 (these have been tested).
See pic below to find out which version of router you've got.

Pre-requisites :
LAN/RJ-45 cable (u don’t want to flash your router wirelessly huh!!)
New bin File… Click here to download
WinRAR or 7Zip or any other software to extract the files.

Known issues:
Since we are flashing modded bin of TL-WR3020 to TL-WR703N(both have the same hardware except number of LED's) the only issue till date is that LED won’t blink when connected through a DSL modem but that doesn’t affect the functionality(I don’t think that’s a deal breaker as you r gonna get an English interface) and who keeps looking at the LED all the time?

LED works just fine if you use it with any USB dongle and Of course you always have the option to go back to the stock firmware.

Procedure :
1- First extract the zip file you just downloaded.
2- Connect ur router to ur computer through a LAN/RJ-45 cable,
3- Open your web browser(preferably Internet Explorer). In the address bar type 192.168.1.1 and hit enter.
Username : admin
Password : admin
4- Now you need to select the bin file for flashing.
How to know where to click to select the bin file? Check screenshot below(Click on image to enlarge).

Click on appropriate options as shown above and select upload bin fine and click on OK
Wait for 2-3 minutes, router will auto restart Just wait n watch you’ll have the English interface in front of you.

If after flashing you are not able to access your router using the default IP(192.168.1.1) then access it using IP - 192.168.0.254

Do NOT turn off the power or remove the Ethernet cable during the upgrade process

Not happy with the new interface? Wanna go back to old Chinese interface?
Click here and download the Original bin and simply follow the aforesaid instructions to flash n you’ll have the old interface back.

Hope it helps...Please don't forget to leave Comments

Happy Flashing :)

  3. Hi
I have just ordered a wr703n and will try to upgrade firmware when it arrives.
    Thanks for the firmware updates.
I did a binary compare against TL-WR3020 mr3020nv1_en_3_12_11_up(120320) and found changes at beginning like 3020 to 703
What version of 703n does the reversal firmware reverse too, as I couldn't find a good match in 703n stock firmwares.

    Thanks
    Ed.

  6. Hi Thanks for the clear instructions.

However more clarity on the rationale behind the process would be very helpful so as to understand what is happening and why.

For example why does the 3020 bin have to be modded? Afterwards can official unmodded TP-Link 3020 firmware be applied as and when? (e.g.as more 4G modem support updates come along)
    If not then what?

Hope you can help ;=) Iain

    2. Hi Thanks for reply. Ok I'll rephrase the questions.

      1) What are the mods to the 3020 bin?

      2) If your friend uses unmodded 3020 bin(s) then why bother with modded ones?

  7. This bricked my TL-WR703N, I have HW v1.6, any way to recover it? During power up, LED lights for a second, goes out and then flash’s very quickly and disappears again, can’t ping it i.e. 192.168.1.1. Have also tried the reset button to no avail.
Any idea on what I can do next to recover it?

    1. Sorry i was busy with exams and yes as suggested in comments below u need to try accessing your router using IP 192.168.0.254

IP may or may not change after flashing but please check n reply soon. I am adding this up in the original post.

Also i have already mentioned that LED will only work with USB dongles and won't work with normal modems, it does not affect the functionality. It seems flashing has been successful and u just need to access your router using the correct IP, so please check and reply.

  9. Hi!

Any chance to get the lastest (August2012) firmware as a modded version?
And why did you use an old March2012-firmware for a MOD in 2013?

And any chance to get the information what exactly was modded?

    Cheers! raimerik

    1. After installing the March2012 fw you can just downloaded and install the Aug update from within the GUI. Model no check only applies when upgrading from the original Chinese stock FW.

Flash the stock fw with this fw, download latest MR3020 from TP Link site, update this FW with latest downloaded one.

If you want to directly install the AUG 2012 fw, just replace the first 140 bytes from the newer (MR3020) fw with the ones from this modified FW.

  11. Hi, after successfully flashing the modded TL-MR3020 FW via ethernet cable, my router (TL-WR703N China Version) IP changed from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.0.254. Then I successfully flashed the Aug 2012 official update. However, when I tried to connect to the router via wifi, it prompted me for the Security Key which I can't find as it is not printed on my router label. So I tried to access my router GUI via ethernet cable, but my laptop only sees it as an unidentified network and I can't access the router GUI using 192.168.0.254 IP address. Please help!

Because your Greek is worse than my English I write in English.Well, I installed the firmware MR2030 and is shown to work well. But because the led is not working, I decided to put another firmware (DD-wrt). I downloaded the Chinese prototype that you have, installed it and now I have a problem. The Ethernet port does not work. Now I have firmware Chinese and I can not replace it because Ethernet not work. What can I do now? Throw it? Got any ideas?

      3 - Open wrt.

In the step 3 i have to flash it over wifi because the ethernet port was not working, i supposed after i flashed it the wifi is disabled and the ethernet port is not working so i can't enter to the device.

    1. Hardware doesn't seem to be the same as in 702n USB port is missing and it doesn't have any support for 3G/EVDO dongles... while 3020/703n supports almost every 3G/EVDO dongle from all parts of the world....

702n is a stripped down version of 703n... so even if the firmware of 702n works on 703n(i haven't tried.. as can't afford the risk... i am a student with limited resources)still it won't be of much use as 3G/EVDO functionality will get disabled for sure....
while in modded firmware everything works fine except the LED issue already mentioned in the original post... :)

For the MR3020, the hard button functionality is probably lost on the WR703N, correct? (Can't switch to WISP or AP modes)

  25. I am in Japan and the only internet available is ADSL. It was easy to flash to the English version and everything worked great for a while.
    I have the following problems:
    - when using MagicJack app on my iPhone4, i can only make calls-not receive (the caller gets a message stating that I am unavailable at the moment)
    - iMessage/ FaceTime do not work: on my McBook is shows me logged-in but I can't send anything, on iPad/iPhone I can't even sign-in.

My suspicion is that I have to change settings on the unit but I can't figure out which ones.

    Any suggestions here?

Somehow, the iPhone gets blocked on some kind of Firewall but I can't figure out why.
